Jewellery Care
General Care
To keep your jewellery looking beautiful, it’s important to understand the delicate nature of precious metals and gemstones. Fine jewellery requires mindful wear and proper care to ensure it lasts for years to come.
Protecting Your Jewellery
Precious metals, natural gemstones, and even diamonds can chip, crack, or become damaged if exposed to impact, pressure, or extreme temperature changes. Many household chemicals and cosmetic products can also weaken metals or dull gemstones over time, even if the effects are not visible right away.
When to Remove Your Jewellery
While we want you to enjoy wearing your jewellery daily, proper wear is essential. Please remove your jewellery when:
• Showering, bathing, or swimming
• Sleeping
• Applying lotions, perfumes, or cosmetic products
• Exercising (especially at the gym)
• Doing hands-on work where chemicals, force, or friction are involved
Your lifestyle and profession may also influence how often your jewellery should be worn. If you’re unsure whether a specific activity is safe, it’s always best to take your jewellery off. Following these guidelines will greatly help extend the life of your piece.
Plated Jewellery Care
Plated jewellery requires extra gentle handling to preserve its shine and finish.
Avoid contact with oils, lotions, perfumes, and other cosmetic products. Apply these first, and only put your jewellery on once they have fully absorbed.
Remove your plated jewellery before exercising, swimming, or showering.
PLEASE NOTE: If your plated piece needs refreshing, we are happy to assist. Please contact us to arrange a re-plating service. Re-plating starts at R200.
